Veteran Hiring Specialist shares important information

Ben Marish, a Veteran Hiring Specialist shared this information:

Go to www.TADPGS.com enter your resume and review the available jobs. If there any that you feel you are qualified for, apply immediately on the website. Next, go to http://www.adeccousa.com/ , set up an account, upload your resume and search the available jobs. Contact your local DVOP (Disabled Veterans Outreach Program) or LEVER (Local Veterans Employment Representative) for guidance in your job search. They assist veterans by promoting community and employer support for employment and training opportunities, including apprenticeship and on-the-job training. Those in your immediate area can be located at www.servicelocator.org.

Keep checking the TAD PGS and Adecco sites often as new jobs are added daily. I have attached a few other resources that may be of help. Hireveterans.com and Vetjobs.com are tremendous resources and included on the list. I would recommend that you go to the Employment Assistance section of VetJobs (www.vetjobs.com) and review the “How to Find a Job” article.

If you are not sure what you want to do, VetJobs has a Career Adviser, the CRI behavioral/technical career assessment test. Takes about an hour to complete but you get a 12 to 14 page print out with great guidance. Normally costs $250, but it is free through VetJobs! It is located on the Veteran drop down at https://vetjobs.com/careerAdvisor.htm .

Another excellent resource is the listing of dozens more sites that are dedicated to specific types of jobs that can be found at http://vetjobs.com/media/aggregator-job-board-sites/ .

In addition, visit vetjobs.com, hirepatriots.com and hireveterans.com, as they are excellent resources.

Other ways to stay in touch with us include our Linkedin group at http://linkd.in/Sg346w , and our blog at http://bit.ly/YvQnZp , where I have and will be posting information on free training, jobs, benefits, etc. on an ongoing basis.

    A Sprinkling of Security Websites

Do you have an active security rating?
My understanding is that you need to keep checking back to the sites because jobs come and go very quickly. And the most important thing to remember is you have nothing to lose by applying to a job which looks interesting!

If so, here are a couple of sites for you to look at:

Ain't Technology Wonderful or why is it that no one responds to my resumes

A dear friend used to say "Ain't Technology Wonderful"

Thirty years ago, when we would send resumes, we would get a human reply.
Now with all of our wonderful technology, when a resume is emailed, it is scanned by software which picks out certain words. If you don't  have the certain words, then your resume is not sent further up the flag pole.
The only time a human might respond is when you are actually accepted for an interview.
Even hand carrying a resume to someone, does not mean they will read it.
The best advice I can offer is to read and re-read your resume, making sure there are NO mistakes on or in it.  Then put the resume down, walk away and come back in a day and read it all over again.  Then have a friend or two read it as well. The more eyes and brains which are looking at your resume, the better are the chances you might get a human to call you.
And make sure you follow up with either an email or better yet, a call to a real person.
If no one will call you, then call the company operator and ask for the name, email and phone number of the HR manager.

If they won't call you, then you call them

Somewhere along the way of technology, humans have forgotten about the spoken word and what it means to hear someones voice.
