The Ten Second Test

THE TEN SECOND TEST, will you pass my initial screening for talent or be set aside as I move on to the next candidate

Coca Cola Company Top Contributor
I look every few months and continue to see my fellow veterans transitioning back into the private sector facing the same challenges I did a year ago. What no one will tell you is what is needed to secure an interview. So let us first understand we are responsible for developing our own marketing plan and the resume is ONLY an introduction to secure an interview to see if your a fit for the gap in the organization you sent a resume to for consideration as a candidate to be hired.
It comes with reviewing your skills, knowledge and experience. Can you pass the 10 second test, in other words from the top of your profile, through your summary have you provided the word picture to keep the HR staff and manager engaged to showcase your skills?

In many cases the answer is no, so I move on to the next candidate. What went wrong? How many of your profiles read "transitioning military member"? Unless this is the job your seeking "transitioning military member", in a talent search no one will ever see you to validate your resume for irregularities off your linked in profile.

Spell out a position your seeking below your name. Follow up with a summary of skills, knowledge and experience to showcase you, not a profile that needs to be on a dating site.

The ten second test, start from the top of your profile, set your watch or cell phone to 10 seconds and go... start to read. When the 10 seconds are up time to conduct analysis.

1. Did you tell potential employers at what leadership level your seeking employment (associate, supervisor, manager, director, VP)?
2. Did you showcase your skills, knowledge and experience so I will read on?

If you answer no to either one or both of these, your chances of success in the changing global environment are restricted as well. All are easy fixes. Interested? Contact me. I am not selling a book, or requiring payment for a service, just honest help if you need it. Your tax is the time it takes and passing on this knowledge to future veterans regardless of rank and service affiliation to continue building a professional network and helping each other. Good luck and I hope this information is helpful.

NTAi can prepare you to gain certifications, and compete, for these high paying jobs which employers seek to fill right now!

The program we recommend and offer to all veterans under the GI Bill is called the ‘Network Administration Advanced’ program which has been designed to give students the hands on experience and expertise that employers are looking for in today’s market place.

Network Administration Advanced is a 12-Month Program, 4 Quarters per year.

Many unemployed individuals have been searching to get a job for over six months, and some have stopped searching all together. The unemployment rate – when it includes the under-employed and those who have stopped looking for jobs – is in the double-digit.  Of those people in need of work, 75% are US Veterans!

If you are a veteran with three years of certified honorable service, your GI Bill benefit will pay nearly 100% of NTAI tuition,. You will also receive a housing allowance while in training, a book allowance, and a certification test allowance.

If unemployed, you may also receive unemployment income while in training (with supplemental section 30 benefits a possibility – call for an explanation.)
